Acadia National Park

Acadia National Park is a beautiful 47,000-acre recreation area on the Atlantic coast of Maine’s Mount Desert Island. It offers rocky beaches, woodland, and glacier-scored granite peaks. The park is also home to a wide variety of wildlife including whales and seabirds. The park’s popular gateway of Bay Harbor is a popular spot for visitors.

3.5 million visitors a year

Acadia National Park is one of the most popular national parks in the United States. It protects the highest rocky headlands on the Atlantic coast and receives 3.5 million visitors each year. The park offers 158 miles of hiking trails, 27 miles of carriage roads, and abundant habitats and cultural heritage. The nearest airport is located in Bangor, 49 miles away.

Acadia National Park’s visitation levels are on track for a record year. It received almost 3 million visitors in 2018, and the number could hit 4 million by the end of this year. Visitation levels have been increasing steadily since the early 2000s, when the park received its first visitors. The number of visitors dipped below 3 million in 2020 because of the Zika virus, but they are predicted to exceed that number this year.

It is Maine’s only national park

Acadia National Park is Maine’s only nationally designated park. It offers 120 miles of hiking trails, two campgrounds, a gift shop and more. Currently, Acadia receives 3.5 million visitors per year. Most visitors come to the park in July and August, with the fewest numbers in December and February. Regardless of time of year, the park offers a variety of recreational activities. To find out when it’s best to visit, check out the Acadia National Park website.

Acadia National Park is a magical place with a unique landscape. If you love wild coastlines, you must visit this park. The coast of Maine is unlike any other in the U.S., and the forest in Acadia is breathtaking – especially in the fall.

It is accessible only by mail boat from Stonington

The Isle au Haut unit of Acadia National Park is accessible only by mailboat from Stonington, Maine. The mail boat departs from Isle au Haut Boat Services, which is located on the shores of Stonington. The boat provides reliable transportation between the two islands, including mail and freight services. Additionally, the mail boat offers sightseeing and hiking services. During the summer, the mail boat docks at the Town Landing on Isle au Haut, providing access to hiking trails in Acadia National Park.

The Schoodic Peninsula is another less-visited section of Acadia National Park, but it boasts spectacular views of Mount Desert Island. Bicyclists can take the 8.3 miles of bike paths along the Schoodic Loop Road. The mail boat from Stonington goes to Isle au Haut and Schoodic Peninsula. Isle au Haut has five rustic lean-tos and 18 miles of hiking trails that offer a different perspective from other parts of the park.
